Domain name value. What’s in a domain name.

October 13, 2007

http://www.buytherightdomain.com/Whats-In-A-Domain-Name.html

Choosing a domain name can be a real exercise in frustration, but it is one of the most important decisions you will make when getting your business online.

Why so difficult you ask? Well, for a start, almost every word in the English language (and I’m willing to bet most other languages too), has been taken in the most common domains. If you make widgets, you’ll almost certainly find that ‘widget.com’ was purchased already back in the days when dinosaurs roamed the web.

To make matters worse, there are so many businesses out there with the same acronym as your business’, it’s likely that yours is gone too by now. Unless you are IBM, and can spend big money to either pay premium dollar for your domain, or sue for the rights to it, you’re out of luck there too.

So what does that leave you with? Your full business name is a good start, however with hundreds of thousands of businesses operating around the globe, you may very well even find that problematic.

So how can you get your foot in the proverbial cyber-door? Here are some tips I have personally found helpful in the past:

– Start with your business name. If you’re lucky, it might actually still be available. If so, buy it now for every country you will be likely ever operate in. There’s nothing worse than preparing to expand into a new market, only to find that you have to operate under a completely different domain name in that country.

– Try some of the newer top-level domains. If you are a television studio, for example, you could register ‘MyTVShow.tv’ for your next series. Originally, there were seven top level domains, namely .com, .edu, .gov, .int, .mil, .net, and .org. Over time, however, more have been created. Aside from the country-specific domains, you might want to consider .aero, .biz, .coop, .info, .int, .jobs, .museum, .name, .pro and .travel if any of these support your business objectives.

– Create a new word and market it well enough to build brand identity. This is a more expensive choice, because it takes a while for people to start to remember your name. That said, once they do, they’ll associate your business with a unique identity. It worked for Google, so why not for you?

– Try word combinations. These too are notoriously difficult to find unowned, but if you are a widget maker, and ‘widget-makers.com’ is available, perhaps you are in luck.

Of course, as with many things, it is often prudent to consult the experts. If your site is being developed by a professional web development business, they should be in a position to advise you from experience what pitfalls to avoid, and how to best market your business for maximum exposure on the internet.

Hollywood Movie actors. Landing A Job In The Entertainment Field. Be a Hollywood movie actor.

When people think of the entertainment field, they immediately think of the glitz and glamor of the runway, the red carpet, and the movie premier. However, few people appreciate the vast business operations and logistics that go into making a movie or developing a television series. Indeed, young professionals who are interested in the entertainment field should consider using their practical skills in order to find a job. While the industry needs talented actors and singers, they also need skilled business, technical, and logistical staff to keep it functioning.

One of the most important aspects of the entertainment business comes from the business, financial, and legal departments. Movie studios and development firms need quality accountants in order to crunch the numbers and manage the large sums of pounds that go into entertainment projects. There is a need for funds management and financial professionals through studios and entertainment businesses, as the talent in the entertainment industry often invests in funds and other accounts promoted by the studio. As well, individual agencies representing singers and actresses need lawyers, legal staff, and financial planners in order to help their clients avoid legal issues and invest their money wisely.

Another important aspect of the entertainment industry is advertising and marketing. The ubiquitous commercials and magazine ads for movies and new music releases are put together by talented advertising professionals through entertainment firms. As well, marketing professionals are needed as liaisons between studios and advertisers. The rise in guerilla marketing and online promotions has meant a rise in the need for talented marketing and advertising professionals.

Finally, there is a need for technical professionals in order to facilitate the creative designs we see in television shows and movies. Set and costume designers combine their love of the artistic with the attention to detail needed in high budget projects. Camera people and those familiar with editing equipment make a movie possible.

It can be tough for young professionals to make their way in the entertainment field. After all, there are hundreds of thousands of young people from around the world that flock to studios in Europe, Asia, and the United States to fight for their chance. The best way for a talented professional to land a behind-the-scenes job in the entertainment industry is to work through a recruiting agency. Many studios, firms, and companies in entertainment work with agencies to find a steady stream of talented professionals. Professionals that want to gain the edge on their colleague and land their dream job in entertainment should work with a qualified recruiter.

Business domain names. A good business domain name.

Business domain names. Make it a good business domain name.

Choosing a Domain Name for Your Internet Business

Once you have decided that you want an internet business, you must first think of what your actual business is going to be. In order to get started, you will first have to choose a domain name. Ideally, the domain name should reflect what your new internet business is all about.

For instance, if you are going to sell widgets you want your domain name to be something like widgets.com or buy-your-widgets-here.net. Get the picture? If you are selling widgets, you don’t want a domain name that suggests you sell something else.

There are multiple sites on the internet that will sell you a domain name. You can go to register.com or godadddy.com to search for your perfect domain name. These sites will inform you on whether or not the domain name is available and if so, what the cost is to purchase the name. If you don’t have your own server, you will want to choose a site that offers hosting as well.

A lot of these sites additionally offer website building. They have templates available for you to choose from to make your site your own. There are also programs available to purchase that you can build your site from as well. They run from cheap to expensive, each one offering different schemes for you to choose from.

In building your site, you will want to choose different letter styles, some bold some not. You may want to add pictures to add interest to your site. You can decide for yourself everything you want to exhibit. It is your site.

Colors are a big decision as well. You want your website to be appealing to the human eye. You can choose flash intros or you can have just a one page site. You can have multiple pages depending on what you are promoting on your site.

You can share links with other companies called affiliates and earn extra money by doing this. One affiliate site I know of is linkshare.com. When you sign up for this, it links you with different companies that pay you when you advertise them on your site.

Additionally, you can advertise your own site on sites like adwords promoted by Google. Yahoo and MSN offer similar programs. Godaddy has just started a new program. If you purchase your domain from them, they will park the domain on a “cash parking” website that displays pay per click (PPC) ads. This way you can make money while working on building your website.

Choose your domain carefully. Make a statement. Make it interesting and above all, have fun while joining the internet circle.
